Many moons ago, in what feels like an entirely different life, I stood in front of a room-full of horse riders demonstrating how ‘what’s in the brain goes down the reins’. I had made 100 pendulums from pieces of lilac ribbon and metal hex nuts and everyone in the room was holding the end of a ribbon focused intently. I’d instructed them to think ‘yes’ and watch which way the pendulum swung. Then to think ‘no’ and to watch if it changed direction. It always did. “So,” I would say “if your thoughts can cause a hex nut on a piece of ribbon to change direction, what do you think your thoughts are conveying to your horse?”
After my talk was over and the long line of people with questions had diminished, a lady who had been very patiently waiting her turn asked me if I had thought about writing a book. I had created and self-published a DIY coaching manual in a ring binder format, which was selling nicely, but a traditionally published book? No, that wasn’t yet on my radar. But it was about to be.
