I’m not sure if it was the energy of the full moon last weekend that affected me, but I felt really quite drained and devoid of inspiration. Anyone else feel that? I’m paying more attention to the moon’s cycles and how I feel during each stage of the cycle. I do seem to have a little surge of energy right after the new moon and then a little slump around the full moon, and then I perk up again.
Last night, as I got up to pee for the umpteenth time (the effect of drinking 3 litres of water a day), I had a special moment with the waning moon. It was around 5am and the moon - just less than full now - was behind a cloud. I could see its light shining at the edge of the cloud, and as I stood and watched the cloud moved and the moon came into full view.
And then I noticed how its position in the sky was completely in alignment with our pond, and there were two moons. The one in the sky and its reflection in the pond. It was one of those moments of awe, when you feel so completely insignificant and also so expansive you become the universe. When everything falls away and you feel such peace in that moment, such presence.
I wanted to capture that moment for you and while my old iPhone 8 isn’t the best of cameras for such as moment, that didn’t matter. I hope you can get the sense of the awesome moon in duplicate.
As I stood there, a book came to mind. Never Not A Lovely Moon; The Art of Being Yourself by Caroline McHugh. I love this book, not just because of its contents but the way it is put together. It’s designed like an art book. Even the text heavy pages are light. The messages and questions clearly set out on a page so they penetrate your awareness and shine straight at you like the moon. It’s the style of book I would love to write (and intend to!)

The title comes from a conversation she had with her son, where they are sharing their favourite memory of the day and he was sulking a little after she’d beaten him at pool.
“Wasn’t it a lovely moon tonight?”
“I guess.”
“Whether it’s full or a sliver, hanging high or low, even when it disappears for two days and two nights every month, the moon’s always a miracle.
Well, the same is true for you. Whether you win or lose at pool, whether you are quiet or on fire, just like it is never not a lovely moon, you are never not a miracle.”
May you remember that is true for you too. It’s never not a lovely moon. You are never not a miracle. There is only one beautiful moon. There is only one ‘you’.
Until next time… keep shining your light, ‘like you swallowed the moon’.
Are you called to join the Bones Tribe?
The Bones Tribe is a monthly sacred circle to dig deeper and share thoughts, insights and experiences. We have had some great discussions so far, and we have occasional guests to spice up our conversations. Our next gathering is Monday 28th April (because our usual 3rd Monday of the month falls on Easter Monday). Our topic for April will be the dreams that we are planting and nurturing.
The Bones Tribe is exclusive to paid subscribers. A paid subscription is just £7 a month or £49 for a year and supports my work, research and writing. In addition to the Bones Tribe Circle, paid subscribers also now get a copy of my Gathering Bones ebook.
